Open Call: “Your Deeds Don’t Define You”

For our Lent show this year, we are curating an exhibition which explores the themes of redemption, forgiveness and reconciliation synonymous with Easter. We are inviting submissions responding to, or questioning the title “Your deeds don’t define you,” and we encourage artists to explore this theme through their work.

We seek installation, films, paintings, photographs, writing, interactive art or sculptures. For this project we are excited to be partnering with Junction42, who will be running creative workshops with prisoners from HMP/YOI Low Newton exploring the same idea. Resultant work from these sessions will be exhibited alongside submissions from artists as part of the show, encouraging a challenging mix of thought provoking perspectives.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 24 February, please include images of your work and a short statement explaining how it responds to the brief.

For more information, or to submit work (either existing work or proposals for a piece) email: [email protected]

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Wednesday 24 February

DEADLINE FOR DELIVERY OF WORK: Monday 29 February – Friday 4 March

EXHIBITION: 11 March – 2 April

OPENING EVENT: Thursday 10 March, 6PM – 8PM

ABOUT JUNCTION42:

Junction42 exists to see the lives of offenders and their communities visibly transformed by the hope of the gospel. We offer support and hope to those both in custody and in the community. In HMP/YOI Low Newton, one aspect of Junction42’s work is a creative arts hub where women can take part in various creative arts projects. During this art project, women will be invited to respond creatively to the themes of redemption, forgiveness and reconciliation. Some may be expert artists while others may never have engaged in creative activities before, however, the emphasis is on their personal and social development rather than their artistic skills. Junction42 will support the women to develop their confidence and self-esteem as well as reflecting on the prominent themes in the Easter story to consider their own life story and where they want to see reconciliation and forgiveness in the future.
