Exhibition: 26 June – 8 July 2017
Open Event: Saturday 1st July 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm: A Strawberry Tea for Breast Cancer Care
Through Which Light Passes is a group exhibition held in memory of Karen White. Karen had a lifelong passion for visual art, completing a BA and MA in Fine Art at Northumbria University and studying towards a practice-led PhD at the University of Sunderland. As well as maintaining her own practice she taught art for Newcastle and Gateshead Adult Education and lectured on the Arts Foundation Programme at Newcastle College.
Karen worked in a variety of media and was particularly interested in developing links between the techniques of painting and drawing and those of photography, film and digital imaging. Her work often dealt with the theme of interior spaces, both of the body and of the physical environment. She died in October 2014 of Secondary Breast Cancer.
As well as her own work, the exhibition will feature pieces by some of her closest friends, all practicing artists and art educators. All proceeds will be donated to Breast Cancer Care.
To coincide with the exhibition, a fundraising Strawberry Tea will be held at the Holy Biscuit on the afternoon of Saturday 1st July.
